Just curious

Are you an in-y or an out-y? Not your bellybutton, but how you fold your quilts.

It is my theory that there are 2 kind of people in the world: those who fold their patchwork to the inside &  those who fold their patchwork to the outside.

I fold my patchwork to the outside -- from blocks to top to finished quilt. In the unfinished stage, to my way of thinking, it reduces stress on the raw seams & protects them from fraying.
As a finished quilt, I just like seeing the finished patchwork folded along the edge.
But I can appreciate that someone else might fold their patchwork to the inside to protect it from harm & keep it clean.

Which kind of person are you?

i guess i never really thought about it. i think i fold to the inside for two reasons. (1) to prevent fading of colors in the top and (2) to prevent questions when some words might show and uptight folks might see them.

I always fold right side out. On pieced tops, it prevents it from shedding threads all over something it is next to also. On finished ones I want to be able to just glance and tell which quilt it is instead of having to pull a corner back and guess.

I also fold right side out. Same reasons as you, plus, I forget which quilt is which if I can only see the backs.

Well, both. For storage, I fold in, to prevent fading, rubbing, possible cat hair. In use, over the couch, I fold out so the design can be seen.

Out-y, for both finish and in progress. I like seeing the top more then the back.

I fold in all sorts of ways. Mostly outwards so I can see the patchwork, but sometimes I want to see the backing , or some of my quilts are 2 sided. I also try to fold them in different ways so they don't get fold marks in one spot. Refolding quilts is a nice way to spend time with them. Now I'll thinking of you when I'm folding my quilts.
