Siren's call

I've been spending quite a bit of time sitting at my sewing machine finishing up several quilts. When I am piecing, I can watch or listen to things, but quilting requires my full attention & silence. In the silence, I think -- life stuff, work stuff, what's for dinner & -- my beckoning stacks of fabric.

One beckoning stack of fabric resolved itself while I was quilting. Sailboats & sea-ish, marine-ish go-withs. The sailboats are mostly scraps from shirts I've made for Shug -- the shirts have all been various levels of, I won't say failure, maybe non-success?, all either too small or too short. Anyway, I had been thinking of another no-plan outing with free-cutting & free-piecing. But the shipshape nature of these prints seemed to want to be more ordered.

And because I had not lashed myself to the mast, I heeded their siren's call.
Why not add another plus quilt to my oeuvre!

And here is a question for you: you've heard the saying "art doesn't have to match your sofa"?
Well, does your quilt need to match your bedroom decor?
Shug's & my room has terracotta-colored walls. The furniture is a jumble of Mission-style & inherited family things all with a patina of cat damage. Will this quilt "go" with our room?
I would love to hear your thoughts!

Oh, yes YES...It is brilliant and it will go with everything. When my love and I went to Hong Kong on our honeymoon a trillion years ago...every boat had a cat on a leash on the boat...So the truth is...cats and boats are the answer. I am so excited about this boat quilt of yours.

Here is the plus of making mistakes with the shirts!!!

I'm not into "matchy matchy". Our house has lots of different pieces as we have several chairs from my MIL and Aunt. I think quilts add a glorious splash of colour to any room - and no one else will have one like it in their room!

Cool quilt! I see terra cotta in there. Maybe sneak in a few more bits of the color. I don't feel that everything has to match, but you might use it on your bed longer if it feels in sync. Or you could always repaint the walls!

What a wonderful collection of boat fabric and great that they are turning into a quilt ! I think blues/creams will match terracotta, but only you can tell the subtlety of whether it feels right. I like Nifty's suggestion of sneaking in some terracotta, or repainting the walls. I'm lucky my white walls go with all my quilts.

It will go beautifully! There are little hints of orange/red in those prints. Love what you've done so far!

The quilt will "go" where-ever it is used and appreciated. That is qualification enough. Remember, there's always the back that can tie it all together if you feel uneasy about the front in that room.

Mes félicitations sont sincères, je découvre ton travail et je l'aime beaucoup. Amitiés.
